Travel Certificates for Pets

How can we help you prepare your pet for travel?

The rules for taking your pet abroad vary by country. Please read the official guidance as the rules may change. We can support you with microchipping your pet, rabies vaccination and boosters, tapeworm treatment and issuing an Animal Health Certificate.

What is Animal Health Certificate and why is it important?

An Animal Health Certificate is a legal requirement for taking your pet to any European country without a quarantine. It verifies that your pet doesn’t have any infectious diseases and meets the health requirements of the country you’re travelling to. It normally includes the owner’s details, pet’s description, rabies vaccination details, rabies blood tests (if required), tapeworm treatment (for dogs, if required) and the country of entry.

What examinations are required for an Animal Health Certificate?

To issue an Animal Health Certificate, we will examine your pet to ensure that they are healthy and fit for travel. We will check your pet’s vaccination status and vaccinate them if necessary, check their microchip or implant one, and screen your pet for infectious diseases like rabies.

When should you schedule your appointment for an Animal Health Certificate?

It’s best to book your appointment ahead of time. You can learn more about the deadlines in the Government’s official guidance. If you are travelling to the EU or Northern Ireland from Great Britain, you will need a new Animal Health Certificate for each trip.

Where can you get more information about pet travel?

We will be happy to answer all your questions about taking your pet abroad. If you have questions about specific requirements for individual countries, you can enquire on the Government’s Pet Travel Helpline or Webchat.
